Get to Know Dr. Mayda Ferguson

Dr. Mayda Ferguson was born in La Habana, Cuba, but has lived in the Metairie area since she was a young girl. Today, she leads her team by engendering a positive attitude, supporting the staff, and facilitating management and clinical seminars. Her main priority is to ensure our patients receive excellent dental care, have their needs and concerns met, and have a great overall experience in our office!

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Toward the end of college, Dr. Ferguson toured the Louisiana State University dental school and was thrilled about the technology and the advancements in modern dental care. She’s always enjoyed creating things with her hands to improve the life of other people, and dentistry would allow her the small, personal environment to make a difference with a talented, caring, trustworthy team. Even after years of education and advanced training, she constantly works to remain up-to-date with the advancements in dentistry so that she can deliver the high-quality treatment her patients deserve.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Ferguson is a graduate of Bonnabel High School and went on to earn two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Zoology and Microbiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After completing her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, she continued her training with a General Practice Residency at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in New Orleans the following year.

She has been in private practice since then and remains a constant learner, earning a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in the summer of 2013. She is always curious to learn new things and constantly works to stay current with all of the latest dental techniques and technology by attending many continuing education classes.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When not practicing dentistry in Metairie, Dr. Ferguson keeps busy as a mother of two children. She can be found on weekends driving to and from softball games with her daughter or walking their rescue puppy, Nikko, with her son at the park. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, traveling, walking by the lake, skiing, attending any New Orleans festival, and a little salsa dancing.
